Ryan turned to Lycoris and added, "He's right.  I know you're worried about Alex and Nerine but we're doing everything we can to get them back.  Sia's doing her best and I'll continue coming up with new plans.  I am happy to hear that you're getting some of your energy back.  That is good news."

Alex nodded and replied, "I suppose.  I don't think he'll completely abandon us since he knows how important we are to Lycoris.  At the same time, though, I'm pretty sure he won't sacrifice her."

He sat on the bed and leaning against the wall, he added, "I guess there's not much else we can do except get more information.  There's no point in trying to escape, obviously."

(Getting sleepy here so I'll get off for the night now and go to sleep.  I'll check back tomorrow and post before going to work and all.  Nite, nite, Love.  ^^)

Lycoris hung her head down and  didn't reply, but how could they ask her to just keep a positive mind and not worry? The most precious people to her heart were kidnapped and she was hiding safely, helpless.

She looked ready to break down again when the healer said, "I know it's easier said than done but please do your best. In the meantime, it's relieving to see that you're improving."

He smiled softly and said, "If that's all, I should take my leave. The head healer is probably waiting for me."

Nerine sat on the bed beside Alex and laying her head on his shoulder softly, she replied,

"You're right, I suppose. It's a good thing that shapeshifter seems to be opening up to us. Maybe eventually, she'll reveal everything she knows. Maybe it's useful."

Ryan nodded and replied, "I understand.  Thank you for all your help.  I should escort you outside the barrier, at least, but will you be able to teleport to the cave for the portal?  Also, I should contact Sia so she can have the portal ready for you."

Alex wrapped an arm around Nerine's waist and replied, "I hope so."

Remembering something that Nerine had said earlier, Alex added, "You said that you thought she looked familiar.  Perhaps it was someone from your past?"

The healer smiled to Ryan and nodding, he said, "I can teleport to the cave myself. If you'd be so kind, sir, to escort me and contact Her Majesty, I would be quite grateful."

He bowed to Lycoris and said, "Please take care of yourself, my lady and I wish you a fast recovery."

He then waited for Ryan to take him outside the barrier.

Nerine nodded and replied, "Yes, I think so...Umm it's going to sound a little strange but I thought she looked a lot like my dad. It's probably my imagination though. I doubt she knew him or anything like that."

Ryan nodded and turning to Lycoris, he gave her a kiss on the cheek and said, "I'll escort the healer out and contact Sia so I'll be back in a few minutes.  Our boys will stay and keep you company, right?"

The puppies barked happily and getting up, Ryan led the healer outside of the house and then outside of the barrier.  Then he took out his pendant and said,

"Sia, are you there?"

Alex looked thoughtful and asked, "Did your dad have any brothers or sisters?  That lady might be a cousin of yours if she's any way related to him."

Lisianthus heard Ryan's voice from the pendant and replied, "Yup, I am here, cutie. Did the healer check on Lycoris?"

Nerine nodded and replied, "He had one sister, Sia's mother but that's all. But do you think she's related to him somehow? I mean, it could be just a coincidence, right?"

Ryan replied, "Yup, he sure did and she's recovering well physically.  Of course, the news about Alex and Nerine has her emotionally down but we've told her to stay positive despite it and that we're doing everything we can to get them back.

So the healer is all done and the portal needs to be activated.  Is that all right?"

Alex replied, "Possibly but we should try to find out more about this woman if we can.  It would help to talk to Sia but we'd need to get out of here first..."

Lisianthus nodded and replied, "Yup, sure, right away. Tell the healer to teleport to the cave and I'll summon him the portal right away."

Nerine sighed and replied, "I doubt Sia knows anything though. I mean, she would have said something long ago if she knew anything, right? But maybe we can try talking to the woman more and see if she would reveal more about herself. I mean, she's opening up to us, in a way."

Ryan nodded and replied, "Ok.  Thanks, beautiful.  I'll contact you again this evening before I turn in for the night.  I love you, and I'll talk to you later."

After putting away his pendant, he turned to the healer and said, "Sia says that the portal will be ready for you.  Thank you for everything, sir.  Do you have any advice regarding Lycoris' recovery?"

Alex nodded and replied, "That's true, and she has opened up to us so far.  It would help to get as much information as possible.  If she's really doing all of this for a good purpose, then we've all been approaching this from the wrong angle."

The healer turned to Ryan and said, "The most important thing, sir, is that she continues to get enough rest and think positively. She's making good progress so far but she hasn't gone through the danger zone yet. If she lets this get to her, her health might suffer again. I know it's a bit difficult given the circumstances but do try to cheer her up as much as possible, sir, for her sake."

Nerine looked at Alex carefully and asked, "If she's really doing this for the purpose she claims, would you really try to help, Alex? I mean, even if it meant sacrificing Lycoris?"

Ryan nodded and replied, "I understand.  I'll do my best.  Thank you again for everything and please thank the head healer for me as well for allowing you to come with me to check up on Lycoris."

Alex replied, "I'd try to help although I would look for alternative solutions first.  I mean, if saving this world meant that your life had to be sacrificed, would you do it without a second thought?  Because I couldn't bear to let you go ever, darling."

The healer smiled to Ryan and said, "You're welcome, sir. Please excuse me."

He bowed politely before he cast a spell and teleported to the cave where the portal was opened.

Nerine couldn't help but smile softly and replied, "Well, I'll have to think again for your sake then, Alex."

She leaned in to give him a sweet kiss on the lips.

After the healer teleported himself, Ryan returned to the safety of his house, protected by the barrier.  He approached Lycoris and taking a seat beside her, he gently asked,

"How are you doing, angel?"

Alex happily returned the kiss, wrapping his arms around Nerine's waist in a loving embrace.  After the kiss was over, he said,

"I'm glad you're with me, darling.  You give me such strength and comfort."

Although Lycoris had calmed down relatively and wasn't crying at least, she didn't look to be in higher spirits. But as she didn't want to worry Ryan about her, she replied quietly,

"I am ok. Don't worry about me. You didn't get anything to eat, right? You should have something."

Nerine looked lovingly at Alex and replied happily, "You give me strength too, Alex. I don't know what I could have done if you weren't here with me."

Just then, the door opened, and a soldier came in with a tray of food. He set it on the table after he put it back in place, and announced strictly, "Here's your lunch."

Then he took his leave, closing the door after him.

Ryan nodded and replied, "I will.  Did you eat the food I set for you?"

Although Lycoris wasn't crying, Ryan couldn't help but worry that she might be feeling very down by the bad news.

Alex got up and approached the table, taking the tray of food.  He then returned to Nerine's side and commented,

"I'm surprised that the lady didn't come in to bring lunch.  I hope her condition isn't worse than what it appeared."

Lycoris was silent for a moment but then shaking her head slowly, she replied quietly,

"I'm sorry. I was too worried and I just couldn't eat. I fed the puppies though and I-I can come eat with you now."

Nerine replied, "Maybe she's just resting? I mean, it must have angered her that she collapsed in front of us. She probably didn't want to seem weak or vulnerable so she doesn't want such a thing to happen again?"

Ryan nodded and replied, "Please do.  You do need your strength to make a good recovery, after all."

He helped Lycoris to her feet and seeing that the puppies were in her arms, Ryan led the way to the kitchen.  There, he placed Lycoris into her chair and took out her food and drink.  Then he went about preparing lunch for himself which consisted of a simple sandwich and juice as well.

Alex replied, "It's possible.  Well, we should eat to get our strength and the food looks good."

He then began to eat his lunch.

Lycoris didn't eat right away, waiting for Ryan to finish making his meal first. Once he was done and started eating, she began eating her food, doing so silently.

Nerine began eating her lunch as well, which was simple but delicious and good. She said,

"At least they're feeding us well. I am guessing that captain isn't the one supervising our stay. I doubt we would have been treated that well."

As Ryan ate, he would glance at Lycoris, knowing how worried she was about Alex and Nerine.  Thinking of something, he said,

"After lunch, I'd like to go over some ideas with you to get Alex and Nerine back.  I do have a few and I would like to go to the library.  There's something I want to take a closer look at."

Alex nodded and replied, "I agree.  That captain would have let us starve and we would have remained in our previous cell if he had decided things."

Wondering about something, he added, "I wonder who the soldiers are loyal to-the captain or the lady."

Lycoris became suddenly attentive as she heard Ryan mention Alex and Nerine, and nodded eagerly to his suggestion. After a little, she was all done with her lunch and waited for Ryan to finish too, so they could think over how to rescue Alex and Nerine.

Nerine looked thoughtful and replied, "Well, I am guessing the captain? Since he's supposed to be the leader here although the lady takes care of most things. They probably obey her because they think she's following the captain's orders."

Ryan noticed how alert Lycoris became and he thought it was a good sign, as it got her out of her depression.  He soon finished his lunch and seeing that Lycoris was done, he got up and taking the plates and glasses, he took them to the sink to wash.  After he washed everything and placed things on the drying rack, he dried his hands with a towel.  Approaching Lycoris, he then asked,

"Where would you like to talk?  Is the living room ok or perhaps our bedroom?"

Alex nodded and replied, "That's true.  It's something that I wondered since I'm thinking that if they were loyal to the lady, they might support and help her more.  If we can get her to trust us and all..."

He trailed off although there was implied meaning in his reply.

Lycoris held the puppies carefully in her arms and standing up, she said, "The living room is fine."

She followed Ryan as he led the way, curious to know what ideas he had in mind. She would do anything, anything, to get Alex and Nerine back to safety.

Nerine paused in her eating as she heard Alex's reply, wondering where he was going with this. Looking at him curiously, she asked,

"Do you have something in mind, Alex? A plan, perhaps?"

Ryan gently escorted Lycoris into the living room and there, he seated the two of them on the sofa.  Then looking at her, he said,

"As you know, I talked to Sia earlier about this situation and she's getting your dad's diary so we get more information about your powers.  I talked to the head healer and asked him if it was possible to transfer a small fraction of your powers.  Transferring all of your powers would kill you and I don't want that but I wondered whether a small amount would be ok.  But he said that it might weaken you permanently since your powers are linked to your soul although he would need to examine you to know for certain.

There is another idea I had in mind but I would definitely need to read up on it first..."

Alex looked thoughtful and replied, "I don't really have a solid plan in mind.  I'm just thinking that if we can convince the lady to trust us, she may eventually let us go out of her own accord.  And if the captain were to attempt to hurt us, she could protect us and if the soldiers were aligned with her, they could help as well.  That's why I wished to know for certain if the soldiers are loyal to her or the captain.  If they're loyal to her, that would better help our situation."

Lycoris listened carefully to Ryan as he explained everything and about the idea of taking a small amount of her powers. She didn't mind; she was ready to go through anything even if it endangered her health or her life.

But as he mentioned another idea, she curiously asked, "What is the other idea, Ryan?"

Nerine thought about what Alex said and after a moment of silence, she said,

"But what would she gain from that? I mean, assuming that she can do so, she must gain something from us in order to let us go, right? I doubt she would do it as an act of kindness."

Ryan replied, "Do you remember when I told you that my mentor could create new spells?  He created a powerful spell that can duplicate a magic user's power.  So I'm thinking that if I can master this spell, I may be able to duplicate your powers and transfer them into a vessel, perhaps into your duplicate.  Then I can give them to the shapeshifter in exchange for Alex and Nerine.  It's not something I want to do but it's a better option than surrendering yourself."

Alex sighed and replied, "Yeah, that's true.  I know she is capable of kindness.  I did see it in her but you're right, darling.  I don't know what she would gain from releasing us.  The only thing I could give her is our assurance that we would do everything to help her restore the devils' world like it once was but she would only have our word and that wouldn't be enough."
