Irene looked thoughtful and trying to take a decision quickly, she replied,

"I think it would be better to reply to the duke at the moment. I am not sure how fruitful talking to Lisianthus would be at the moment and we have no time to keep persuading her. We need to act quickly."

Ryan nodded and replied, "Ok, I'll do so.  If I run into problems, I'll let you know."

He then opened up the telepathy and replying to Duke Collins, he said,

Ok, you have my attention.

Duke Collins was already annoyed for being left without a response all that time, but he decided to reply anyhow,

Hah, your attention? I don't need it. You're the one who's looking for me. But that was a nice plan, I'll give you that much.

Ryan replied,

It goes without saying but how did you know that we would be coming?  Where's Lycoris and what happened to the shapeshifter?


He decided to get straight to the point and see what answers he could get.

Duke Collins replied,

Do you seriously believe that I took Lycoris away to tell you where she is? Lycoris is safe with me, and I am not handing her over to you so you can take her powers and life away. Regarding the shapeshifter, you should forget about her for a while.


As for how I knew...I suppose I should thank the queen for her warning.

Ryan was shocked when he heard that Lisianthus had warned Duke Collins and replied,

What?  You must be messing with us.  Sia would never do such a thing.

Duke Collins smirked to himself and said,

I couldn't believe it when she told me either but it's the truth. The queen actually cares about Lycoris and her life more than all of you do. Well, she owed me for saving her life before and she paid back. Perhaps I even owe her a thank you as well.

Ryan couldn't respond to Duke Collins out of shock so instead, he looked to the others and tearfully said,

"S-Sia...she betrayed us all.  She betrayed Lycoris.  She's sentenced her to death."

He collapsed on his knees, the emotional pain so unbearable.

(I'm shocked at what Lisianthus has done, too.  O_O)

(She did it partly out of revenge from Ryan but unlike what Ryan thinks, she actually did want to save Lycoris from sacrificing her powers. XD)

Irene gasped at this discovery, as it hadn't crossed her mind at all that Lisianthus could do that, to reveal their plan to Duke Collins and betray them all. Quietly, she said,

"No-no. Something isn't right. Lisianthus wouldn't do that. That duke must be bluffing us."

Lady Penelope was shocked as well but her thoughts were all concentrated on her daughter. Tearfully, she asked,

"What about Anjela? What happened to her? What are they going to do to her?!"

(I see.  XD)

Ryan replied, "I-I'll try to find out."

Doing his best to focus, he replied to Duke Collins,

Ok, you foiled our plan.  Congratulations.  Now why don't you let the shapeshifter go?  We don't know where Lycoris is and it would do you no good to keep a hostage.

Duke Collins replied,

Well, you're right that I don't need the shapeshifter and I would be more than happy to let her go but I'm afraid I can't. It's the queen's orders. She asked to have her captured. Now, I can't break my promise to her, can I?

Ryan replied,

Did Sia say why?


Although he knew Lisianthus' reasons for wanting the shapeshifter, he had no idea if Duke Collins had the same knowledge.

Duke Collins was getting annoyed with Ryan's questions but he replied,

No, she didn't and I didn't care to ask. I would give her what she wanted and save my Lycoris from your hands. That was quite enough for me.

Ryan replied,

Well, it's not like you have to keep up your end of the deal.  You can just let the shapeshifter go.  You could always tell Sia that she escaped.  You have no obligation to keep your end of the deal.  After all, you've never liked Sia, if I recall correctly.

Duke Collins was annoyed with Ryan's words but he smirked to himself and replied,

Really now? Well, have I ever liked you to listen to you? At least she's my queen. Who are you to help you and let the shapeshifter go for you?

Ryan was getting annoyed with Duke Collins but rather than reply to him, he turned to the others and told them everything that Duke Collins had told him.  Alex listened on in shock as Ryan told them what happened, shocked that Lisianthus could have betrayed them and that the shapeshifter was now a hostage.

Lady Penelope was losing her composure and as she heard what Ryan said, she tearfully said, 

"No, no, we must go in there and get her out. My-my daughter won't take in any of this. Please, we have to rescue her."

Irene groaned, as even she was shaken by this unexpected turn of events. Quietly, she said, "It would be too dangerous to just march in there. There are plenty of guards inside and even if we could overcome them all, they may hurt the shapeshifter if they sense that we're trying to reach her."

Alex was frustrated by this turn of events and he replied, "We need to do something.  Perhaps I should contact my darling and tell her what's happened.  She might have an idea."

Ryan nodded and replied, "Do that, please."

As they couldn't think of anything else at that moment, Irene nodded and said,

"Maybe that could help. We're all emotionally excited at the moment so perhaps we aren't able to think clearly."

Alex nodded and using his telepathy, he reached out to Nerine and said,

Darling, it's me.  Are you at the academy?  Are you safe?

Nerine heard Alex and immediately replied,

Alex. Yes, yes, I am safe. What about you? How is everything on your side? Were you able to save Lycoris?

Alex replied,

I'm fine but...


He paused briefly and after taking a breath, he told Nerine everything that had happened, how Duke Collins had found out that the party was coming to rescue Lycoris and how Lisianthus had betrayed them.

Nerine was shocked to hear everything Alex was telling her, especially how Lisianthus had betrayed them and told the duke everything. Surprise clear in her voice, she replied,

N-No, Sia can't really do that, can she? Maybe-maybe that duke is trying to fool around? Sia could never betray us.

Alex replied,

I don't know but from what I could tell, there wouldn't be a reason for Duke Collins to make up such a lie.  Do you think I should communicate with Sia to verify the truth?  Although right now, we need to figure out where Lycoris is and how to free the shapeshifter.

Nerine couldn't think of any immediate solution and the only thing that came to mind was indeed talking to Lisianthus and verifying everything from her. She replied,

I-I can't think of anything else. You said that Duke Collins took Lycoris away from the mansion, right? And I don't think it would be anywhere near you. Maybe if you talk to Sia, maybe...maybe she can contact the duke and ask him to let go of the shapeshifter.
