Romance RP

Alex smiled a little and replied, "I guess that's true but still, I want to thank you.  If it hadn't been for you, I would have never known that I still have magical potential.  I thought-well, our family thought-that it had been lost forever."

The shapeshifter was a bit surprised that Alex insisted on thanking her but after a moment of silence, she said,

"Well, if you insist. You're welcome, I guess. And you're more talented than you think you are. You learn faster than average magic wielders, I believe. So you might actually call yourself a sorcerer quite soon."

Alex looked hopeful and replied, "Really?  That's great to hear."

He wondered about something and said, "I heard that some sorcerers are able to specialize in more than one type of magic.  Do you think that could be the case for me?"

The shapeshifter looked thoughtful and replied, "Yeah, some sorcerers have such ability. But I can't really answer your question. The one to answer it would be my mother. She knows of a powerful spell that can determine one's power and elements he can master. You can ask her to perform it on you when she's here."

Alex nodded and replied, "Ahh ok, thanks.  Speaking of her, how is she?  I hope she's well.  I should contact her myself although I do not wish to inconvenience her at the same time.  She must be busy trying to keep up her cover and everything."

The shapeshifter replied,

"She's fine. And do contact her if you want, she's not that busy, although if you want to do so, do it in the evening. It's when she finishes work."

She took a deep breath then said, "If you're rested enough, we should continue our lesson."

(Ahh I am afraid I have to log off now as my mum wants me to take care of some chores and it will take me a while to do them and all. XD I'll post again tonight and tomorrow, of course. ^^ Nite, nite, phoenix. ^^)

Alex stood up and nodding, he replied, "Yup, I'm ready.  I can't wait for our lesson to continue."

He waited for the shapeshifter to take the lead so that they could continue their lesson.

The shapeshifter nodded and got up as well and after both took their previous positions, she said,

"Ok, try to cast the invisibility spell once more and let's see how long you can keep it up this time."

Alex nodded and feeling more rested, he made another attempt at the invisibility spell and this time, he was able to keep it up for a few minutes before he finally had to become visible again.  Once it was done, he looked to the shapeshifter and asked,

"Is that better?"

The shapeshifter nodded and more pleased with this try, she said, "Yes, a lot better. Well done. Well, now you know how to cast the spell correctly so all that's left is to practice it. The more you do, the longer you'll be able to keep it up and it will feel natural to you."

She paused then said, "Alright, now to the next spell. This isn't really a new spell, but I want you to learn how to summon a defensive shield around someone else other than yourself."

She started giving him the instructions and explaining the difference between summoning a shield around himself and around someone else, then demonstrated it in front of him.

Alex took careful mental notes as the shapeshifter explained and then demonstrated the defensive shield spell and how to cast it around someone else.  He asked,

"So it's like summoning a shield around myself except that I'm projecting it onto someone else, right?"

The shapeshifter nodded to Alex's question and replied,

"That's right. It's useful in battles, if your partner is vulnerable or if you want to protect someone else and you can't get to them in time. Now go ahead and try to summon it around me."

Alex nodded and focusing his mind, he concentrated on casting a defensive shield around the shapeshifter and was able to do so successfully although it only lasted for several seconds before it dissipated.  He looked to the shapeshifter and commented,

"It's a little harder than summoning a shield around myself."

The shapeshifter nodded in understanding and said, "It is as you aren't focusing on yourself, which is usually easier. Just do your best to concentrate. Now try to cast it again."

Alex nodded and cast the defensive shield around the shapeshifter again and this time, he was able to keep it up for a couple of minutes before it finally went down.  Smiling a bit, he commented,

"There, that was better."

The shapeshifter nodded and replied,

"Yes, that's a lot better. You need to work most on your concentration, ok? Keep in mind that you'll be casting most spells during battles, as in, while fighting, probably more than one enemy. Concentrating is essential then. Focus on strengthening that, ok?"

Alex replied, "I understand.  What's the best way to keep up my concentration?  Should I just make sure that I get enough rest or is there more to it?"

The shapeshifter was thoughtful for a moment then replied,

"Getting enough rest is important and getting enough practice. But also don't burn out yourself. Using too much magic at once can get quite exhausting pretty quickly especially if you aren't used to it, and that could leave you unable to cast anything for a while."

Alex nodded and replied, "I understand."

He looked thoughtful and asked, "Compared to other beginners, am I progressing better than they are?"

The shapeshifter nodded and smiling a bit, she said,

"Yeah, you are. At least you can cast most spells from the first try. Most beginners take some time to just get used to the spell and be able to cast it. Don't underestimate yourself; you have the potential to be powerful soon."

Alex smiled softly and replied, "Thank you.  It means a lot to hear such praise from you and I'm only so good because you are an excellent teacher.  I'm certain I wouldn't have learned this quickly under anyone else."

The shapeshifter's smile faded away and she nodded, replying with,

"I am not doing anything. I'm only giving you the instructions and you're good at following them and taking notes. Keep it up."

Wanting to change the subject, she asked, "Are you ready for another spell? We'll make it an offensive one this time."

As Alex wasn't thrown off by the shapeshifter's sudden change of behavior, he nodded and replied,

"Sure, I'm ready.  I need to learn how to attack as well, right?"

The shapeshifter nodded and after a moment of thought, she said,

"You already know how to summon a fire ball and fire it, don't you? Well, I won't be teaching you anything new, but I want you to do your best to summon as many as you can and fire them at me successively. Make it as quick as you can, but stop when you feel tired."

Alex nodded and replied, "Ok, I'll do my best."

He made sure to be at a suitable distance enough away from the shapeshifter and then concentrating deeply, he summoned several fire balls from his hands, aiming them at the shapeshifter, each one in succession.
