Alex continued his attacks against the soldiers as well and hoped that he and the shapeshifter would be able to take them down quickly.

Meanwhile, Ryan replied, "Yeah, I can handle Lycoris.  I just need to get Duke Collins off my back for a while."

Irene nodded and replied, "Our work won't be too separated anyhow. They're keeping pretty close to each other but I'll try to get his attention away."

She took a breath then started to attack Duke Collins with a large number of dark balls, trying to get his attention away from Lycoris. However, Lycoris had a strong shield around her and the duke while the latter continued attacking with fireballs at Ryan and Irene too.

Ryan did his best to deflect the fireballs that Lycoris was throwing towards him and Irene.  Getting an idea, he cast a protective shield around Irene and himself that her attacks wouldn't hurt them.  Then he decided to try a more advanced spell, combining fire and dark magic into a gigantic monster aimed towards Lycoris.

Lycoris could feel the amount of magic Ryan had put into his attack as he summoned a gigantic monster towards her. Groaning, she gathered her strength and summoned a powerful defensive shield but this one had a reflective trait so that any attack the gigantic monster would make at her would be reflected back at Ryan and Irene.

Ryan noticed that Lycoris had put up a defensive shield and thinking quickly, he cast a spell to not only break the shield but to destroy any effects that it had.  It would take a lot of concentration but he needed to do so if he were to be able to get to Lycoris.

Lycoris could feel her shield breaking apart and although she was taken aback, she had to think quickly of how to save the situation. Doing the first thing that came to mind, she reached out to hold Duke Collins' hand and teleported away from the area by a few meters enough to be out of Ryan's and Irene's sight for a few minutes at least.

Ryan looked around in shock as he realized that both Lycoris and Duke Collins had teleproted away.  Muttering angrily, he said,

"Where did they go?  We must find them quickly."

Irene quickly cast a locator spell to find out where they were and locating them indeed, she said, 

"They're still nearby. Let's hurry."

Meanwhile, Lycoris put a powerful defensive shield around her and the duke and asked him to quickly work on summoning the gate to the gods' world, as they needed to get out of here immediately. She summoned a couple of large dark monsters to guard them as she expected that they would be found again soon.

Ryan held Irene's hand and said, "Ok, please teleport us to where they are so we can stop them.  I think Alex and the shapeshifter can hold their ground here."

He looked to Alex and Alex nodded in understanding.

The shapeshifter nodded as well and Irene teleported them immediately to where Duke Collins and Lycoris were. The latter felt their presence right away but she wasn't surprised as she had expected them. She kept her shield intact and immediately ordered the monsters to attack them as soon as they arrived, wanting to use the element of surprise.

Ryan groaned to himself and while summoning his own monsters, he said to Irene,

"I have a feeling that they're going to try to escape.  Any ideas other than continuously attacking them?"

Irene groaned and as she fended off against the monsters as well, she replied, 

"We need to reach Duke Collins if we wish to stop them from going anywhere but I can't think of a way to do so with Lycoris continuously protecting him."

Lycoris continued concentrating as Duke Collins was about to summon the gate, and to make things more difficult for Ryan and Irene, she continued summoning more monsters around them to keep them away.

Ryan replied, "Hmm, I'll try something."

While he used his powers to fend off Lycoris' attacks, Ryan shouted to Duke Collins,

"Don't you see what you're doing?  Haven't you realized that something is wrong with this Lycoris?  Do you think she's the real one?"

Duke Collins heard Ryan's shouts to him and as he continued summoning the gate, he smirked and shouted back,

"The only one with something wrong about him around here is you. This Lycoris had only finally freed herself out of your grasp and she deserves nothing but support from me."

Lycoris groaned and shouted herself, "Enough, Ryan. I've had enough of you. I used to trust and love you but you broke all promises and all your words. You can't expect me to continue to stay by your side despite everything you did, everything you're doing!"

Ryan ignored Lycoris and continuing to talk to Duke Collins, he asked, 

"What did she do?  Did she pretend to be the Lycoris that you love?  Do you remember how she was after we were rescued and taken back to the castle?  Don't you remember Lycoris' behavior then?"

He hoped that if Duke Collins could remember how Lycoris' other self had behaved, he would come to realize that the real Lycoris was being held against her will.

Duke Collins replied angrily, 

"She is the Lycoris I love. If she's being aggressive and out of her nature now, it's only to defend herself against your terrible actions. I've warned her before so many times against you but she didn't listen. I am glad she finally saw the truth!"

Lycoris smirked and replied, "Exactly. I told him the truth, Ryan-how you wanted to hand me over to the shapeshifter to kill me and take my powers. Even now! Don't you realize that you're fighting by her side? What are you denying?!"

Ryan replied, "Because that's what the real Lycoris wants."

He turned to Duke Collins and said, "Don't you see who you're talking to?  It's Lycoris' other self, not the one you love, or are you so stupid as to not realize?"

(If I'm slow in posting, it's because I'm chatting and watching a movie at the same time.  XD)

Duke Collins angrily replied, "How dare you! I know very well who I am dealing with and who is the Lycoris I love, human."

Lycoris looked hurt as Ryan called her other self the real one, for although she was used to her being called that by everyone else, she never heard it from Ryan. Angered and hurt, she ordered her monsters to attack him specifically for revenge.

Ryan was alarmed as Lycoris' monsters aimed their attacks at him and immediately, he strengthened his defensive shield.  Looking to Irene, he telepathically asked,

What do we do now?  That duke won't believe me and I can't keep this up for long.

Irene groaned and helped Ryan by strengthening the defensive shield as well. She replied,

We-we may have no choice but to retreat. Duke Collins will probably take her to his duchy but he won't be out of Lisianthus' reach.


Meanwhile, Duke Collins had finally summoned the gate to the gods' world and holding Lycoris' hand he told her to follow him. Lycoris nodded although she gave Ryan a sad and hurt look before following Duke Collins quickly into the gate.

After Lycoris and Duke Collins entered the portal, Ryan groaned and looking to Irene, he said,

"We have to contact Sia now.  She can have that duke arrested and everything."

Irene sighed and replied, 

"Calm down. We need to take things slowly a little. Contacting Lisianthus from here isn't a good idea. We need to go back to the shapeshifter and Alex and help them first then we can go to the gods' world ourselves and discuss everything, alright?"

Ryan sighed and replied, "All right."

He paused and then asked, "Did you see the look on Lycoris' face?"

His face was sad as well and he looked down on the ground.

Irene approached Ryan and putting a hand on his shoulder, she gently said, 

"It may have been because you called the Lycoris we know the real one. So indirectly, you were calling this one fake. I don't think you did that before. If anything, I think this other self of Lycoris' wanted things to mess up this badly but she was certainly against being sacrificed."

Ryan replied,

"I can understand but our Lycoris wanted to go through with this ritual and there was a good chance that she could have survived.  But that other one didn't have faith at all."
