Lycoris quickly replied,

"N-Not in a hurry . . . I don't want to face him before I am completely ready, of course but . . . I think the sooner we get rid of him, the better, you know? W-We'll get rid of his danger and worrying about him."

Although Ryan suspected that there was more to it than what Lycoris was saying, he nodded and replied,

"I suppose that's true.  But there's something I want you to know.  When you're ready to face that captain, I'll be with you.  I won't leave you to fight him by yourself."

Lycoris was surprised to hear what she did and quickly shaking her head, she replied,

"N-No, of course not. That captain is quite dangerous and what would happen if you're hurt? I-I would never forgive myself. That captain is mine to finish, alone."

Ryan sighed and replied, "I know you're worried about my safety but I'm your friend and I won't let you face this danger by yourself.  Besides, we'll have a better chance of defeating him for good if we work together, right?  We can support each other and all."

Lycoris sighed and after a moment of silence, she replied,

"Ryan, it's too early to talk about this but there's something you have to understand. I won't let someone I care about get hurt again by that captain, and that includes you. I know that you're powerful and you're my teacher who I am honored to have, but the danger is still there and I can't endanger anyone I care for."

Ryan frowned slightly, feeling a bit annoyed at how stubborn Lycoris was over the matter.  Deciding not to press the issue further, he replied,

"You are right about one thing.  It is a little early to be talking about this now.  Shall we go back to the lesson then?"

Lycoris could feel a little of annoyance in Ryan's voice but she didn't say anything about the matter anymore, and nodding, she replied,

"Alright. What's the next spell to learn?"

Ryan thought about it for a minute and then replied, 

"How about a disable spell?  If you feel like your enemy is moving too quickly, you can use this spell to freeze him for a few seconds.  That makes him more vulnerable to attacks."

Lycoris nodded and replied,

"Alright, that sounds like a powerful spell and a useful one, too."

Ryan nodded and then went on to describe the spell, explaining its effects and such.  Then he demonstrated the spell but first he had to conjure a dummy that could move so he could demonstrate exactly how the spell worked.

After he finished, Ryan turned to Lycoris and asked, "Ready to give it a try?  I'll summon another dummy so you can practice the spell on it."

Lycoris nodded and replied, "Alright."

She waited until Ryan summoned another moving dummy and taking a breath, she tried to cast the freeze spell. She couldn't do it for some time, and it took her a while but she was finally able to cast it correctly and froze the dummy correctly.

Ryan watched as Lycoris cast the spell and finally mastered the spell.  Nodding in approval, he said,

"Well done.  That spell is a little more difficult to master since you have to aim it at a moving target but you did well."

Lycoris smiled a bit and nodding, she replied,

"Thank you, Ryan. I think I will need to practice this spell a little more because as you said, it's more difficult than usual."

Ryan nodded and replied, "Yup, that sounds wise.  Hmm, do you know how to summon a dummy?  If not, I should teach you.  That way, you can practice on your own when you like."

Lycoris nodded and replied,

"I was about to ask you. It would be useful to me for practice purposes and who knows what else."

Ryan replied, "Sure, that make sense.  First, I'll teach you how to summon a dummy but not a moving one.  A moving one is a little harder to summon."

He then went on to explain how to summon a dummy and then demonstrated the spell in front of Lycoris.  After he was done, Ryan asked,

"Want to give it a try?"

Lycoris nodded and replied,

"Alright, I'll try."

She took a deep breath and tried to cast the spell. It took her some tries to cast it correctly but she was finally able to cast it successfully and summon a steady dummy.

Ryan nodded in approval and commented, "Well done.  Now you can practice on standing dummies when you want to cast spells.  Now for the spell to summon moving ones."

He then described the spell to Lycoris, explaining that it was almost the same as for a standing dummy except that there were more words that needed to be chanted as well as greater concentration required.  After he was done, he said,

"Ok, let's see you summon a moving dummy."

Lycoris nodded and after taking a deep breath, she tried to summon a moving dummy, concentrating as much as possible. She made a couple of mistakes for the first few times, summoning a standing dummy instead of a moving one, but after a while, she was finally able to summon a moving one correctly.

Ryan commented, "Well done, Lycoris.  This will make things easier for you when you want to practice on your own time."

Seeing that they were halfway through the lesson, Ryan asked, "Would you like to take a break now?"

Lycoris nodded and replied, "I'd like that. We finished a good part of our lesson."

She waited for Ryan to lead her to the bench and once there, she sat down and put the puppies on her lap, petting them gently.

Ryan observed Lycoris as she petted the puppies.  Smiling at them, he asked,

"How is Lycoris doing in her lesson, boys?"

The puppies barked happily and wagged their tails in reply.  Ryan chuckled and commented,

"I think that means you're doing great, Lycoris."

Lycoris smiled softly and continuing to pet the puppies lovingly, she replied,

"I am glad they think so of me. I am doing my best to train well so I can be strong enough to protect them and protect all I love and care about."

The puppies barked happily and snuggled closer to Lycoris, enjoying her warmth and company.  Remembering something, Ryan said,

"Ahh I talked to Sia last night and our plans to the beach for tomorrow are all set.  I'm looking forward to taking you and the boys there."

Lycoris smiled gratefully to Ryan and replied,

"Thank you, Ryan. I really appreciate it. I am looking forward to going there with you and the puppies, too, and seeing the ocean for the first time."
