Matthew turned to Lycoris and asked, "So what do you want to do this afternoon?  Do you want to go back outside or perhaps I can find us a book to read?"

Helena looked thoughtful and replied, "How about we continue our walk for a bit and then we can rest?  Is that ok?"

Lycoris shook her head and replied,

"Let's go outside. I like spending our time outside and the weather is so beautiful today, perfect to spend with my love."

Nathan nodded and replied, "Anything my princess wants."

He winked happily at her and the two of them continued their peaceful walk.

Matthew chuckled and replied, "All right."

He turned to the shapeshifter and said, "Thank you for the meal.  It was great."

He got up and after helping Lycoris to her feet, he escorted her outside so that they could enjoy the afternoon weather.

Helena and Nathan continued their walk, and Helena would gently lay her head on Nathan's shoulder, basking in his love, warmth, and comfort, enjoying the beautiful afternoon with her love.  She couldn't ask for anything more.  Well, she did wish there wasn't this whole mess with Lycoris but as she couldn't think of an idea in regards to that, she just decided to enjoy the moment instead.

After Matthew and Lycoris left, the shapeshifter gave a sigh of relief and commented,

"She's suffocating. How could she be a part of Lycoris?"

Nathan,.too, was enjoying the peace of the moment and being in the comfort and love of the woman he loved. Although he would usually be anxious and irritated because of the whole situation with Lycoris, being with Helena made him calmer and more relaxed, to find someone who cared about him and would stand by his side.

As they continued walking, he said, "You know, it's a good thing this whole situation isn't public or else it would have been difficult to go anywhere and I wouldn't be able to take you to Blacklily often. I would have been wanted all around the gods' world."

Alex sighed and replied, "I have no idea.  She'll always be a fake to me.  That's not Lycoris, as far as I'm concerned.  I want our Lycoris back soon."

Helena widened her eyes in realization as she heard Nathan's words and she replied, "Yes, that's true.  It is a bit of a surprise that the queen hasn't made any sort of announcement about this, unless it's just that she would rather have it handled privately?  Or could there be another reason?"

The shapeshifter replied, "I am not close to the real Lycoris but she's definitely a lot better to have around than that fake. Do you have any idea what triggered her presence in the first place? The real one looked fine and in control."

Nathan furrowed his eyebrows and replied,

"We'll, the queen is far from popular around here, and things have been going only downhill recently. On the other hand, I was in a respectable position, and the soldiers and people alike used to respect me, let alone my family's good reputation. If she does make things public, well, no one will stand on her side and she'll lose even more of her reputation between her people."

Alex replied, "I don't know the details but I think it was something that Ryan did when he tried to separate Lycoris' powers from her body without her dying.  He didn't intend to create that one, of course, but yeah.  Ryan would probably know more details, though."

Helena nodded in understanding and replied, "I see.  But why is the queen so unpopular?  I've never met her, of course, and I don't know much, if anything about her."

The shapeshifter nodded and replied,

"Yeah, I remember now. It was probably that duplicate that was entrapped with a bomb and when the captain tried to take its powers, it exploded. Looking back at it, it wasn't worth that trouble."

She paused then said, "But what about now? What caused her to take control?"

Nathan frowned a little and said,

"She's a cruel one, merciless and ruthless. Multiple executions, many of them pointless. A lot of citizens put in prison when more merciful decisions could have been made. I was responsible for the castle's dungeons for a long time so I know, and I had multiple soldiers under me executed."

Alex shook his head and replied, "I don't know.  Perhaps Ryan knows or maybe even Matt does, since he spends time with her."

He sighed and then added, "If there was a way just to have only our Lycoris, I'd gladly take it."

Helena looked saddened and replied, "I'm so sorry, Nathan.  She sounds horrible indeed.  I can't imagine what it must be like living under her rule.  I've only ever known the kindness and generosity of our king and queen.  They're like the opposite of her."

The shapeshifter was silent for a moment then said,

"If anyone can bring her back, I think that would be you. She is quite attached to you. I am not sure what exactly you can do, but if you can reach out to her somehow and let her know you need her presence, she might come back."

She paused then sighing, she said, "Or just forget about her. Maybe she's meant to be with Matthew, as you are with Nerine."

Nathan smiled and said,

"You know, you are lucky to have them. It's wonderful to have good, wise rulers. The previous king was like that until he lost it over the girl's powers and started the war, killing soldiers and innocent civilians. One of them was my daughter."

His expression darkened and he squeezed Helena's hand, as though he wanted her comfort.

Alex looked sad and replied, "So you think I should let Lycoris be with Matt?  If I knew our Lycoris loved him, I-I'd let her go but that doesn't seem to be the case..."

Helena gently squeezed Nathan's hand and she replied, "I'm sorry, Nathan.  I promise.  I'll help you get the happiness you deserve.  You deserve to be happy and to be loved, and I want to help you."

The shapeshifter replied,

"Yeah, the real Lycoris loves you but maybe it's because she didn't give herself a chance to open her heart for Matthew? She just wants to be around you but when Nerine is around, you won't be able to return her feelings or give her the attention she wants."

Nathan smiled softly at Helena and said,

"Hearing you say that is more than enough, you know. It's just that maybe at times, I wish it didn't have to be this complicated. If the war hadn't started, if my daughter wasn't caught in such a mess in the first place, I wouldn't have had to go through all of this."

Alex nodded and replied, "Yes, that's true.  D-do you think I should encourage Lycoris to open up her heart to Matt?  I guess that would make Matt and my darling happy, and maybe it might be better in the long run."

Helena nodded and replied, "I understand.  There are wars in the human world, too.  Not as many as there used to be but it's always over something that really didn't need to be fought over and innocent people die."

She sighed sadly.

The shapeshifter nodded and gently, she said,

"I know it's the best thing you'd feel like doing, but I think it would be better for everyone. You remember that miracle. I may not believe in it completely but if it's true, maybe Matthew's love for her can save her life."

Nathan nodded sadly and replied, "I guess it's like that anywhere. The rulers don't really care except about what they want and the lives of others are the lowest priority to them."

Alex nodded and replied, "I understand.  When our Lycoris is back in control, I'll persuade her to open up to Matt.  He truly does love her, and he wants the chance for her to love him back.  I should help."

Helena replied, "That's true.  There are even some kings and queens in the human world who are still like that.  The king and queen in Devenshire are really quite different, though.  Some people call them progressive since they work for things to improve the lives of everyone, not just the nobles."

(This is a bit random but I have a Steam key for Miniature Garden and was wondering if you wanted it.  It's published by Fruitbat although the dev is different from Enigma.  I bought the Fruitbat bundle from Fanatical but I already have Miniature Garden, so yeah, I was wondering if you wanted it.  It's definitely more on the horror side, but I do like the true path for it.  I found it quite sweet.  But yeah, offering the key if you want it.  ^^)

(Oh it definitely looks interesting and if it's the same publisher as Enigma, I am even more interested now. xD So yup, I'd like that very much, thank you. ^^)

The shapeshifter smiled a bit and replied,

"Yeah. You don't always do the things you want but you put others first before yourself, Alex."

Nathan nodded in understanding and asked,

"How long have they been in charge? And do they have any heirs? It would help if their offspring have the same mindset as they do."

(Coolies.  After I make this post, I'll get the key and send it to you via PM.  ^^)

Alex returned the shapeshifter's smile and replied, "Yes, yes, it's for the best and if two people I care about end up being happy together, then I can be happy, too.  It's best for everyone."

Inside, he felt sad but he knew that the shapeshifter was right and if Lycoris were with Matthew, then she could be saved.

Helena replied, "For many years.  Ever since the previous majesties passed away, they've been in charge.  They actually wish to retire but they don't have any heirs nor any relatives who could take their crown.  I heard that they're looking at the nobles and asking if one of them would bear the responsibility, but it's so hard.  I know they want only the best rulers for the people and those who would care for them like they have."

The shapeshifter nodded although she could sense Alex's sadness. She said,

"You're right and you have Nerine. Despite the situation, she'll be saved and then you two can continue your lives together."

Nathan nodded in understanding and replied,

"It's very thoughtful of them that they take such care to choose good rulers after their reign is over. It's such a loss they don't have heirs. When it's time for them to retire, it will be such a loss."

Alex nodded and replied, "That's right, and my darling and I are going to have a family together.  I should be focusing on her and our future.  It's not easy doing the right thing but I know it must be done."

Helena replied, "That's true.  We've been so lucky to have a wonderful king and queen, and I can only hope that the future ones will be just as wonderful to the people."

The shapeshifter furrowed her eyebrows and suddenly realizing what Alex meant, she raised an eyebrow and asked,

"Your wife is pregnant?"

Nathan nodded then looking slyly at Helena, he said,

"But you don't have to worry about that anymore. After all, if I can help it, I am not letting you off this cloud again."

(Ok.  ^^)

Alex widened his eyes, realizing what he had said, and nodding, he replied, "Yes, she is.  We were keeping it a surprise but I guess, considering the circumstances..."

Helena giggled happily and replied, "I don't want you to ever let me go, Nathan.  I want to stay with you forever."

She gazed on happily and lovingly at him.

The shapeshifter was silent for a few moments, just resuming silently to gather the empty plates and dishes and taking them to the sink to be washed. She then quietly said,

"This makes the situation even worse. If that captain knew somehow she is pregnant..."

She trailed off, but wanted to say that he could harm Alex's and Nerine's baby just to press them to hand over Lycoris.

Nathan chuckled happily and continuing to smile slyly at Helena, he said,

"I'll agree to this wholeheartedly, you know. I can kidnap you all over again, have you become just mine and mine alone. You're only allowed to love me and I love you back."

(Awesome.  ^^)

Alex looked sad and replied, "I know what you must be thinking.  But I would hope the captain wouldn't be that cruel."

He paused and asked, "Do you think the captain only wants Lycoris' powers so he can become more powerful?"

Helena nodded happily and replied, "Yup, that's right.  I wouldn't mind you kidnapping me over and over."

The shapeshifter shrugged and replied, 

"I have no idea, but why else would he want them? I asked him before about it, but he sternly replied that it was none of my business. You can see we were far from being friends. I've seen nothing of him to indicate there was any reason for him wanting Lycoris' powers other than he's power-hungry and greedy."

Nathan chuckled and replied slyly, "I love the sound of that."

He leaned in for yet another loving, sweet kiss.

Alex sighed and replied, "Then he definitely mustn't ever get them, even if that fake is the one in control at the moment."

Helena happily returned the kiss, pouring all of her love and passion into it.  It was as though part of her let go and decided to completely trust in Nathan although she did still care about her friends and wanted to find a way to help them.
