Meanwhile, Matthew headed to town to Helena's shop to talk things over with Helena and to go over the plan with her.

Inside Matthew's house, Alex was relaxing in his room with Nerine, wanting some quiet time.

Lady Penelope decided to look for the couple in their room first, and headed upstairs. Once at their door, she knocked on it and said,

"Darlings, are you here? It's me, Lady Penelope."

As Alex relaxed with Nerine, he heard a knock at the door.  He looked at Nerine, confused for a moment, but got up and opened the door.  Seeing Lady Penelope there, he said,

"Hello, my lady.  It is a surprise to see you.  Is there something we can help you with?"

Lady Penelope smiled to Alex and replied, 

"Hello, darling. Well, it is not something to help me with, but my daughter wants to talk to you privately.  She asked me to fetch you and all."

Although none of that was true, she thought that mentioning the shapeshifter wanting to talk to Alex would prevent Nerine from coming along, as she knew how the shapeshifter's temper can be.

Alex nodded and replied, "Sure, I understand."

He turned to Nerine and asked, "Will you be all right by yourself, darling?  I'll be back soon."

Nerine wondered what the shapeshifter wanted to talk to Alex about, but nodding, she replied,

"Yes, sure, don't worry. Don't take long."

Alex smiled and replied, "I'll be back soon."

He turned to Lady Penelope and said, "Ok, take me to your daughter and we'll go talk."

Lady Penelope nodded and led the way towards her room. There, she opened the door for Alex and followed him inside. Clearly, the shapeshifter wasn't present. Smiling apologetically at Alex, Lady Penelope said,

"This was a small lie back there, darling. I am the one who wishes to talk to you privately but I didn't wish to say so in front of your wife. I thought my daughter would make a better excuse."

Alex looked confused for a minute but then slowly nodding in understanding, he replied, "Ahh I see.  Yes, that makes sense.  I understand.

So what did you wish to talk to me about without my darling present?"

Lady Penelope motioned for Alex to take a seat and after taking one herself, she took a deep breath and tentatively asked,

"Umm darling, you still have feelings for Lycoris, right?"

Alex blushed and replied, "Of course I do.  My feelings for Lycoris haven't changed but..."

He trailed off, unsure of how to put in words that Nerine was unhappy with such ideas.

Lady Penelope could guess what Alex thought about and nodding in understanding, she said, 

"I know that Nerine doesn't approve of you being together and I guess I can't blame her in a way. Well, I wouldn't have blamed her if these were normal circumstances but as it stands, they are not. What if your feelings for Lycoris are the only way to save her life?"

Alex looked confused and asked, "What do you mean, my lady?  Could my love for her save her?"

(If I'm slow in posting, it's because I'm gaming on my smartphone at the moment.  lol)

(Ahh no problem. XD)

Lady Penelope nodded and replied, "It might be the only way actually."

She paused then after taking a deep breath, she said, "You know about that true love miracle. Well, in all honesty, I'd thought that Matthew might be the one to fulfill it. He has feelings for Lycoris too but although her other self returned them and they became close, the true Lycoris we know didn't. Umm she made it clear to him that her heart belongs to you."

Alex blushed deeper and replied, "Oh I see.  Well, I still love Lycoris.  I've never stopped loving her from the first moment I knew of her existence.  But how can I help?"

Lady Penelope was glad to hear Alex's answer and replied,

"Well, the one thing we're sure of is that Lycoris would never try to get close to you because of Nerine, so step number one is to not tell her anything. We have an idea of get Nerine away from you for some time without her suspecting anything and you can spend time with Lycoris meanwhile, try to get close to her again. If you can have your relationship come back to life somehow, this would trigger the miracle, I think."

She paused then sighing, she continued, "It's the only way. Otherwise, Lycoris will sacrifice herself and only her other self will survive."

Alex looked confused as Lady Penelope mentioned about Lycoris' other self surviving and he asked,

"What do you mean by her other self surviving?  Wouldn't Lycoris sacrificing herself mean that neither of them would survive?"

Lady Penelope nodded and replied, 

"Naturally, yes, that would be the case but Lycoris asked Matthew to find a way for her other self to survive. She knows that her other self and Matthew have feelings for each other so she wants her to live on so they could somehow find happiness together."

Alex sighed sadly and replied, "That does sound like Lycoris.  Well, I'd rather save the Lycoris we know.

Ok, I'll help.  If my darling can be distracted for some time so I can spend time with Lycoris, hopefully we can make that miracle happen.  But what should I do if Lycoris suspects something?"

Lady Penelope looked a bit troubled and replied, 

"Umm well, I haven't really thought of that. You know her best, darling, so I was thinking you could find your way around her?"

Alex replied, "I suppose I'll have to wing it if Lycoris suspects that something is up.  We'd need to keep her and my darling away from each other, though.  Well, that shouldn't be too difficult, I think."

Lady Penelope nodded and replied,

"Lycoris naturally avoids Nerine and so does the latter so that shouldn't be a problem."

She paused then said, "I hope this works. It's the only hope we have left."

Alex replied, "Me, too, my lady.  If this can work and everyone gets what they want, then this can all be over and we can finally live our lives in peace.  I've had enough excitement for one lifetime."

Lady Penelope nodded and replied, "Yes, I hope so. Well, I can't say the same for myself but at least you all can go back to your peaceful, quiet lives."

She sighed sadly as she remembered what her daughter planned to do after being finished with Lycoris' matter.

Alex heard Lady Penelope's sigh and replied, "What's the matter, my lady?  Umm could it be that you're worried about your daughter when all of this is over?"
