Alex added, "All that was left was my darling's earring."

He looked to the shapeshifter and said, "You and the captain worked together at one point, right?  Do you have any idea where he might hide?"

Helena hoped that Alex or one of the others would try to contact her, as she had no way of contacting them at the moment.  However, she did need to get some rest at the same time, so she headed to the bathroom to wash up and get ready to sleep.

The shapeshifter raised an eyebrow and replied, "If I did, I would have talked from the beginning. Why would I know a hideout and keep it from you?"

Lisianthus rolled her eyes and replied, "Because you are not trustworthy, perhaps? And you are our enemy all the same. You could be still helping that captain behind our backs."

Nathan continued to ponder over the situation. He had an option-to erase the location from Helena's memory so she only wouldn't remember where they were, or at least prevent anyone from reaching her telepathically. But he didn't want to do that behind her back. Had it been anyone else, he wouldn't have cared but for some reason, he didn't want to be deceiving her.

Ryan added, "Perhaps you might have an idea as to where he lives?  I mean, if I had to run away and hide, I'd be here."

Helena finished washing up and then she changed into a nightgown, having fetched one from the closet.  As she brushed her hair, she hoped that some sleep would help her figure out what to do.

The shapeshifter ignored Lisianthus and turning to Ryan, she said,

"Yeah, but you wouldn't let anyone know about its location. That captain wasn't the most trusting person in the world. He would only tell me what he wanted me to know. I don't even know anything about his background for the matter, other than that he was the head of the royal guard."

Raising an eyebrow, she looked at Lisianthus and said, "He used to work for you and you want me to tell you all about him?"

Lisianthus frowned and said, "He hadn't been there for that long. Only a few months before the chancellor took me off the throne."

Nathan couldn't make up his mind or make a decision, so he decided to get some sleep as well, hoping that things would go as he wanted the next day.

Ryan looked at Lisianthus and the chancellor and asked, "There wouldn't be any records about the captain?  Where he would reside or anything?"

Matthew nodded, getting an idea of where Ryan's thinking was heading.  He added, "Our king and queen here would always keep such records or entrust them to someone, more for record-keeping purposes than anything else."

Helena got up the next morning, having felt well rested after a good night's sleep.  She sat up in bed, stretched out her arms, and looked around, having temporarily forgotten about yesterday.  She expected to be in her old room but then she looked around at all the splendor before her and she remembered that she was now staying at the captain's home.

Lisianthus nodded and replied, "Of course there are such records. We wouldn't make someone the head of the royal guard without knowing everything about him. I'll contact Irene and ask her to send me the records."

She communicated with Irene telepathically, asking her to bring her all information about the captain when he worked in the castle.

The captain had woken up early in the morning and was in the arena of the mansion, privately training his magic and sword skills. He didn't have breakfast, waiting for Helena to wake up so they could eat together. His mind still went to and fro, not able to make a decision. Was he to trust Helena completely, or be extra careful and take his precautions?

Alex replied, "Well, we have some direction now.  Hopefully, we can find more places to search."

Helena had gotten up, took a quick shower, and then got dressed into a light purple blouse and a pair of black pants.  She brushed her hair, arranging it so, and once she was ready, she rang the bell, for she had no idea where the captain would be at the time and wanted to see him so they could have breakfast together.

Lycoris asked sadly, "Will Nerine wait that long? She must be awfully scared. And Helena, too. She's got nothing to do with any of this. She just got pulled into this mess."

She felt terribly guilty, as she was hiding safely while Nerine and Helena suffered.

As Helena rang the bell, a maid arrived at her room shortly after. She knocked and after being allowed to enter, she bowed to Helena and asked,

"How can I help you, miss?"

Matthew gently touched Lycoris' hand and replied, "Hey, they'll be all right.  That captain knows that hurting them will only make his case worse.  We'll get them back.  It'll just take longer than we thought."

Ryan nodded and added, "Yup, that's right.  We won't stop until we find and rescue them."

Helena smiled to the maid and asked, "Can you escort me to where the captain is?  We're supposed to have breakfast together but I have no idea where he'd usually be at this time."

Lycoris sighed sadly and replied, "That captain won't stand at anything to get to me. I am afraid he might hurt them to press us. In that case, I will hand myself over. I won't hide here while my sister gets hurt instead."

The maid looked confused for a moment then showing an expression of realization, she replied,

"Oh you mean Lord Arundell? He is in the training arena. I believe he's waiting for you, miss. Please follow me. I'll take you to him."

She waited until Helena was ready and led the way out of her room and to the arena where Nathan was training.

Matthew shook his head and replied, "No, you mustn't do that.  That's exactly what that captain wants.  You can't give into his demands."

Alex nodded and added, "Matt's right.  I am worried about my darling but I'm not going to hand you over to him to get her back."

Helena followed the maid as she led the way to where Nathan was.  Curiosity getting to her, Helena asked,

"Have you known the master for a long time, miss?"

Lycoris shook her head defiantly and replied, "My life isn't more valuable than Nerine's so that she suffers like this for my sake. It's not fair. I-I will fight the captain myself if I have to but unless we find a way to quickly find and rescue Nerine and Helena, I won't abandon them like that."

The maid smiled at Helena and replied, "I've been working here for a few years now, miss, so I guess you can say so. I started working here when Lady Arundell, the master's mother, was still alive. He is a good man. Although he is away most of the time, he lets us stay here to take care of the mansion and treats us well."

Ryan frowned and replied, "No, I can't agree with that and I doubt anyone else here does, either.  Listen, we'll find a way to get them back.  We're not trading lives."

Helena nodded and replied, "I see.  Is the master away a lot because of work?"

The shapeshifter commented, "We'll prevent you if we have to so get that idea out of your head."

Lycoris looked pretty upset by everyone's reaction although it was expected, but didn't say anything more. If she had to, she would run away just like she did before if it meant rescuing Nerine.

Lisianthus finished talking to Irene and opening her eyes, she said, "I got some information although I am not sure how helpful they are."

The maid nodded and said, "Master is always busy because of work. He used to work at the castle for some time but he doesn't anymore. To be honest, I am not sure what he does now but it must be important to have him be away all the time."

She paused then looking curiously at Helena, she said,

"Excuse me if I am being nosy, miss, but are you and the master getting engaged?"

Ryan looked curiously at Lisianthus and asked, "What is it, beautiful?  Anything could help, even if it seems trivial."

Helena looked surprised and blushing deeply, she shook her head and replied,

"Oh no, we only just met.  What gave you such an idea?"

Lisianthus nodded and replied,

"The captain is Nathan Arundell, the only heir to the Arundell family. It's a well-known and wealthy noble family in the gods' world and they own a lot of lands and estates. They had a house in Cephiron where they had their meetings and they would stay at it while they were at the capital but no one knows where their main house is. I could have an estimate done of all their lands and houses. We could look in all of them. Everything owned by them would be in our records."

The maid looked embarrassed and quickly said,

"I am sorry, miss. My sincere apologies. It's just that you're the first young lady we see here since Lady Talia, the master's previous wife. So I assumed you must be getting engaged to him or something. It was rash of me to think that, I am so sorry."

Ryan nodded and replied, "That's a good idea.  He could be hiding out in one of them."

Alex added, "And my darling and Helena could be in one of those places, too."

Helena gave a comforting smile to the maid and replied, "It's all right.  I was just a bit caught off guard.  If I may ask, can you tell me what Lady Talia was like?"

Of course, Helena had a little idea about her from what Nathan had told her although she was curious to learn more.

Lisianthus nodded and replied,

"Alright then, I'll give orders to have this task taken care of right away. But considering how large their property is, this won't be finished before tomorrow evening."

Lycoris didn't look too happy with this, as it meant more waiting.

The maid was a little relieved Helena wasn't upset at her and smiling again, she said,

"Oh yes. Lady Talia was a nice lady but umm, she was a little hard to please at times. She had a bad temper and was a little too sensitive so it was quite easy to upset her. She and the master didn't get along well at all and umm, they used to fight a lot. Things went downhill after little Miss Ilya was killed in that accident during the war and they divorced. Lady Talia died shortly after. We heard she committed suicide although it might be just a rumor."

Matthew looked at Lycoris and replied, "Hey, I understand but I think all we can do is wait this out."

Alex added, "What should I do if that captain contacts me again?"

Helena nodded and replied, "Oh my, that's horrible."

Thinking of something, she asked, "If I'm not prying too much, may I ask how Miss Ilya died?  I know she died during the war but I don't know the details."

Lisianthus looked thoughtful then replied, "If you stay here, the captain won't be able to contact you again in the first place, right?"

She turned to Ryan for confirmation, wondering if she understood how his place worked correctly.

The maid looked a little hesitant at first but then she quietly replied,

"She was with Lady Talia on ground, heading to Lady Talia's parents' house. A group of devil soldiers interrupted their carriage and a battle ensued. The soldiers tried to protect Miss Ilya and the lady but one of the devil soldiers' arrows hit Miss Ilya in a critical spot. Our soldiers defeated the devil's and although Miss Ilya was immediately taken to then nearest hospital, she didn't make it."

She paused then a bit worried, she quietly continued, "Please don't tell master I told you any of this. He's awfully sensitive about it."

Ryan nodded and replied, "Yup, that's right.  Not unless I cast a spell to allow telepathic communication to go through."

Matthew realized where Lisianthus might be thinking and he added,

"Alex, you may be better off staying here and I'm sure Lycoris could use the company."

Helena nodded and replied, "Of course.  You have my word.  I won't say anything.  Thank you for telling me.  I know how much he cares for her."

Lisianthus nodded in agreement and replied,

"That's right. The captain won't be able to reach you here and he definitely won't be able to reach Lycoris, Matthew or even the shapeshifter. These are the ones he'd try to contact first. And well, if he tries to contact me or Ryan, none of us know where Lycoris is in the first place. After all, she ran away and we hadn't found her yet."

She smiled meaningfully, hoping everyone got what she meant.

The maid smiled gratefully at Helena and she continued leading the way to the training arena. Soon, they arrived, where Nathan was hard at training his magic. The maid bowed and announced,

"Master, Miss Helena is here."

He stopped his training and turned his attention to where Helena and the maid were. He thanked the maid and gave her permission to leave and to have breakfast prepared. The maid left to do as ordered.

He approached Helena and giving her a small smile, he said, "Good morning. How was my beautiful lady's first night here?"

Matthew nodded, immediately catching on, and replied, "Yes, I see what you mean."

Alex added, "Yes, I understand."

Ryan added, "Same here."

Helena smiled happily at Nathan and replied, "It was wonderful.  You know, I thought that yesterday was a dream and then I woke up and everything and you are here and I couldn't be any happier."

Lisianthus nodded and continued, "Good. Lady Penelope and the chancellor will come with us. We'll need your help in our search."

She decided to set her differences with the chancellor aside for now, knowing how he could be of help. And she wanted Lady Penelope nearby in case the shapeshifter tried anything funny regarding Lycoris, she would have her mother between her hands.

Nathan wrapped an arm around Helena's waist and drawing her closer, he said,

"It's no dream. You are here with me and any wish of yours-consider it my command. I want you to be only happy and comfortable here. If there is anything you need, you tell me right away."

Ryan nodded and replied, "It's a good plan."

Matthew added, "We understand and we'll look after Lycoris."

Helena wrapped her arms around Nathan's neck and lovingly replied, "I may very well take advantage of your offer."

She leaned in to give Nathan a sweet, loving kiss on the lips.
