Yes, I guess you're right.  I-I'm just trying to do what's best but it seems that someone is always going to get upset.

Nerine replied,

You can't make everyone happy, Alex. Let's hope for the best, ok? And please, please be careful. I don't want anything to happen to you.

Alex replied,

I promise, darling.  I'm going with the chancellor and Lady Penelope tonight to get her daughter back so it'll be a quick mission.  Have you heard anything regarding the shapeshifter?


He thought that Nerine might have heard some news that could prove valuable.

Nerine replied,

Not really. As far as I know, Lisianthus tried questioning her last night but the shapeshifter didn't say anything. I think they'll question her again tonight though but when exactly, I have no idea.

Alex replied,

Ok that helps.  I wish I could go see you while we're there but I think it'll be too risky.  But once we get the shapeshifter back here safe and sound, I'll contact you right away, ok?

Nerine replied,

Okay, I'll be waiting for it. Please be careful and contact me as soon as you have any news. I'll do so as well if I have any information.

Alex replied,

All right, I'll do so.  I love you, darling.  Please take care of yourself and I'll talk to you soon.

Nerine replied,

I love you too. Take care of yourself.

The telepathy was shut off and she sighed to herself, praying that things would go smoothly without troubles.

Alex took a breath and getting up, he left the kitchen and returned to the living room.  As he took a seat next to Lycoris, Eleanor asked,

"How is Nerine, Alex?"

Alex smiled a bit and replied, "She's fine and fortunately, she understood why I didn't contact her last night.  She's worried, though."

Lycoris sighed sadly and replied,

"She must be. She must be quite afraid for your sake, Alex and she's the only one of us who's still there."

The chancellor nodded and added, "Lady Nerine better leave as soon as we have the shapeshifter freed. Then you may reveal the truth as you like, but when both are safe."

Alex replied, "That would be best although when I suggested to my darling that she leave as soon as she can, she thought that Sia would be too suspicious."

Edward replied, "That's true.  It would be unusual if Nerine suddenly expressed an interest to leave."

The chancellor replied,

"That may be but if revealing everything was your eventual choice, it won't be wise to do so when Lady Nerine is still there. I can only imagine the queen's rage and she won't have mercy on anyone, family member or not."

Alex looked worried and replied, "But would Sia really hurt my darling?  I-I can't imagine that happening.  When I first met Sia, she was so kind and fun to be around.  I don't doubt this other side but I haven't seen it so..."

(Random but have you ever heard of this game called Hatoful Boyfriend?  It's about dating pigeons.  lol)

(Ahh nope but man, that's an interesting concept. XD Is the main heroine a female pigeon and it's a pigeon world and such? XD)

Lycoris looked sad and quietly said, "Maybe we actually did, Alex. Don't you remember how we first met Sia? She-she wanted to take Nerine forcefully back then, for no reason other than her powers too, or my powers. I-I know that she changed afterwards and was a lot nicer but it was a hint of her other side, which I've seen later for myself."

(I think the main character is a guy and he can date these female pigeons or something.  It's a popular game among my friends on Steam but for some reason, it doesn't appeal to me.  And yet I love playing Dandelion where you can date cats or rabbits that turn into men.  lol)

Alex looked saddened and quietly replied, "Yes, I remember.  I wanted it all to be a misunderstanding, though."

Eleanor added, "I remember when I first met Sia as well.  It was quite scary how she went after Nerine like that."

(lol I see. XD That's some new ideas. I should check out these games sometime but it seems like visual novel writers are getting bored of humans and decided to go for other species. XD)

The chancellor replied, "The queen has always had a dark side she was quite skilled at hiding, unfortunately. But it's all coming to an end. Everyone is knowing her truth for themselves."

Lady Penelope looked quite saddened and quietly said, "I will never forgive her for all the pain she's caused my daughter. She's the reason why she changed so much."

(lol  Yup, and in case you're curious as to how I got Dandelion, one of my friends on Steam bought it for me as a gift.  He recently bought me Area-X, too.  ^^)

Alex nodded and reaching out to touch Lady Penelope's hands, he gently replied, "Yes, I know.  It's horrible what happened to your daughter and I can understand why she hates Sia so.  If only we could get her to see what hurt she's caused to so many people."

Edward replied, "I can't imagine our king and queen ever behaving like that."

(Aww I see. That was quite nice of him. ^^)

The chancellor nodded and replied, "I haven't met the king and queen of Devenshire but I've heard only good and wonderful things about them."

Lycoris said, "They're extremely nice people. I met them once and they were very friendly and kind."

(Yup.  He's quite generous to his friends.  ^^)

Eleanor looked on happily at Lycoris and replied, "Oh I'm so happy that you like them, sweetie.  They would be happy to hear such compliments."

She looked to the chancellor and Lady Penelope and added, "They always think about what's best for the people, unlike some royals who only care about the nobles' interests."

Lady Penelope turned to Eleanor and said, "That's how a king and queen should be and they will only be loved by their people in return."

The chancellor nodded and agreed by replying, "Indeed. I never understand other royals who behave otherwise."

Edward replied, "We feel very lucky to live here under a kind and progressive king and queen.  They think about what would make the people happy and are always welcome to suggestions.  Other kingdoms in the human world may operate differently, though."

The chancellor turned to Edward and replied,

"I see. If I may ask, how many kingdoms are there in the humans' world? I know that it's a lot larger than the gods' world but I don't have an idea about the actual number of kingdoms."

Edward looked thoughtful and replied, "I'm not sure of the exact number but more than 10.  Some kingdoms are larger than Devenshire, though."

Eleanor added, "But we love it.  The countryside is beautiful and the schools are excellent."

The chancellor nodded and replied, "I see. It's definitely a lot larger than the gods' world and you're lucky to live in such a beautiful kingdom. I hope to see more of it."

Lady Penelope said, "Me too. Once things calm down and my daughter is back safely, we'd like to see more of the kingdom."

Eleanor smiled and replied, "Edward and I would love to give you all a tour of Devenshire.  We can check out both the countryside and the town."

Edward added, "We can visit the castle as well.  There's a beautiful garden we should check out."
