| It's been quite a while since I posted a new topic but this is something that I'm genuinely curious about because I really don't get it. lol Recently, I read this article about how scary/horror movies are getting more popular, especially in the US. That genre seems to be ahead of the blockbuster-type films.
Now I've never been a fan of scary/horror movies and here's why. It's a silly reason but it's the truth. Having grown up watching the news where real life scary stuff does happen-murders, assassinations, bombings, etc.-the real world is scary enough. So I don't understand why people would want to be even more exposed to scary stuff in the entertainment medium. And what I mean by scary is the classic horror stuff like Scream, Halloween, etc. I have no problem with dark fantasy works but I don't really consider those to be scary.
Does anyone care to share their thoughts on why scary/horror movies-or books or any other medium-are fascinating to some? | |

| Hmm interesting topic. XD
Personally, I like watching horror movies/games although I can't say there is a specific reason behind it. It could be that I try to make myself braver and more able to confront such scary scenes?
Or it could be that the real world has become scary enough that the scary scenes in the movies simply aren't scary anymore, especially when you know it's simply acting and fake stuff. I found out that with all the scary stuff happening around lately where I am, I've become quite normal to seeing a bloody picture or a sad scene, even the real ones. In fact, I used to avoid killing scenes in shows before but I don't do that anymore.
I can't tell why it's 'fascinating' to some, though. I do watch horror stuff but I am not addicted to them. XD It's got to do with the personality, I suppose, and some could see that it's best to watch stuff that resemble the sadness around the world.
Just my two cents. XD | |
