Lycoris replied tearfully, "She has loved ones here too, right? You and your baby...And I-I am one of her loved ones now, too, right? I won't die if I can help it. I want to be with her. She'll be happy to come back."

The shapeshifter remained silent although she was seething, and wanted to do anything to snap Lycoris out of this state.

Nathan hugged Helena happily and replied, "And I can't believe it myself. I want to tell the whole world about us, you know. Tell everyone how much I love you and how I am lucky to be your husband."

Alex approached Lycoris and gently touching her shoulder, he replied,

"Hey, I understand.  I know that you just want a chance to talk to my darling again.  I get it.  She's watching over us, though.  Don't you think she'd be sad if she saw you doing this?"

Helena happily replied, "And I am the luckiest woman ever to be married to the most wonderful man in any world."

She leaned in to sweetly kiss Nathan on the lips.

Lycoris shook her head and replied, "No, she wouldn't. I am trying to bring her back; why would she be sad? She-she'll be happy to be back with us, with you. How can you say-"

She couldn't continue her sentence as she suddenly felt a hand slap her hard on her cheek. It was none other than the shapeshifter who angrily yelled at her, 

"Snap out of it, Lycoris! Enough of this. Nerine isn't coming back, no matter what you try, no matter what you do. She is dead, and dead people don't come back. So let go of her and move on. You can keep praying here all you want for a miracle but nothing will change. Snap out of it."

Nathan returned the kiss sweetly, savoring every moment that passed with Helena. After the sweet moment was over, he happily said,

"I love you so much, my Helena."

Alex winced as the shapeshifter was giving Lycoris some tough love.  He didn't say anything but stood nearby.  He knew he couldn't have done that to Lycoris and wondered if being harsh with her would work.

Helena happily returned, "And I love you so much, my Nathan."

She gazed on happily at Nathan when her stomach rumbled a bit.  Giggling in embarrassment, she said,

"I guess we should go eat.  My stomach's being a bit impatient."

Lycoris' eyes widened in shock at the shapeshifter's gesture and her words. She had worked so hard to convince herself that Nerine wasn't gone to prevent her mind from drowning into the dark thoughts she was afraid of but there the shapeshifter was, shattering her whole world and destroying the dim hope she was trying to hold on so hard to. It was as though something inside her snapped.

A lone tear only slid down her cheek. Shakily, she only whispered, "For-for good? She's gone for good?"

Nathan chuckled happily and replied, "I'm getting hungry as well so this is the perfect time to move."

He got up and helped Helena to her feet, then offering his arm, he said, "Let's go, love?"

Alex gently replied, "I'm afraid so.  I truly wish that weren't the case.  I would do anything to have my darling here with us but she isn't coming back.  I'm sorry, Lycoris."

Helena happily held onto Nathan's arm and nodding, she replied, "Yup, let's get going."

She and Nathan then walked out of the apartment and outside, Helena led the way towards the restaurant where they would have lunch.

The shapeshifter firmly added, "We know it hurts but running away from the truth doesn't change it. You have to accept what happened and move on."

Lycoris was in shocked silence for a few moments, as though her mind was still processing the truth she really tried to run away from. But as it settled into it, something inside her was changing as well. 

Hanging her head down, she quietly said, "Okay. Can-can you leave me alone for a few minutes? I-I need to be by myself for a bit."

Nathan followed Helena to the restaurant where they could have lunch, holding happily onto her and glancing at her lovingly and fondly every once in a while.

Alex replied, "Sure, we can do that, b-but are you going to be ok, Lycoris?"

He couldn't help but worry about her.

Helena returned Nathan's loving glances as the two of them headed to the restaurant and soon, they made it to the entrance.  The restaurant was quite fancy indeed and there were some nobles dining, as it was a more expensive place.  Although commoners were welcome, too, most couldn't afford to eat there.

Helena and Nathan entered the restaurant and a host greeted them, bowing at the couple.  He asked, 

"Table for two?"

Lycoris didn't raise her head but only quietly replied, "I'll be fine. Just leave me alone for a bit."

The shapeshifter furrowed her eyebrows in concern but didn't say anything.

Nathan smiled at the host and nodding, he said, 

"Yes, please, we want a table for two. Myself and my beautiful wife here."

He winked lovingly at her.

Alex nodded and said, "Ok but we'll be back to check on you in a bit."

He looked at the shapeshifter and made a motion wit his head that they should leave.

Helena blushed and nodded her head in confirmation.  The host smiled and carrying two menus, he led the way inside to an empty booth with a window view where the couple could look outside.  

After the couple were seated, the host handed them their menus and said, "Your waiter will be with you shortly.  Please have a pleasant meal."

The host bowed and then left the couple.

The shapeshifter nodded to Alex and followed him out of the room, leaving Lycoris alone. After they were outside and he had closed the door, she looked at him and said, 

"I know I was harsh but I couldn't think of anything else. She can't stay that way for long."

After the host had left, Nathan looked around the restaurant and smiling, he said, "This is a very nice place, you know. It's quiet and fancy."

Looking curiously at the menu, he said, "Now I wonder if food here is vastly different from food in the gods' world."

Alex nodded and replied, "I understand.  I-I just couldn't have done that to her, but I know that she needs to accept reality as it is.  Still, I worry about her."

Helena opened her menu and commented, "There are quite a variety of dishes.  There's pasta and some chicken and steak and salad and seafood.  Wow, this restaurant has quite a lot but..."

She looked at the prices of the meals and her eyes popped wide with surprise.  She knew that this was a pretty pricey restaurant, but she remembered that there was a reason she didn't frequent this place.

The shapeshifter shrugged and said, "You are soft-hearted but sometimes, that doesn't work. She needs to toughen up a bit. I mean, I know what she is going through but to run away like that-I can't stand it."

Nathan looked confused and replied, "But what? Is something wrong with it?"

He looked down at the menu and although he noticed the prices of the items, it wasn't at all pricey to him, as he was used to visit only the most glamorous and luxurious places so the prices were pretty normal to him. He looked at Helena with a genuine confused look.

Alex replied, "I understand.  Well, do you want to go downstairs?  Get a glass of water or something?  Hopefully, Lycoris is just wanting to say goodbye to my darling."

Helena quickly shook her head and replied, "Oh, the dishes are fine.  It's just the prices.  I had heard that this place was on the expensive side but I had no idea just how much.  I usually go to places that are a bit cheaper or I just cook at home."

She smiled a bit.

The shapeshifter nodded and replied, "Yeah, sure."

She followed Alex downstairs to the kitchen so they could drink some water. Lady Penelope was in the kitchen as well, starting to prepare lunch as it was getting close to lunchtime.

Nathan smiled back at Helena and his confusion cleared, he said,

"Hey, you don't have to worry about that anymore, ok? From now on, just think of the best things and you'll have them all at your command. I told you before; money isn't a problem for me. I probably have enough to last us a lifetime and more even if I didn't work anymore."

Alex and the shapeshifter made their way downstairs to the kitchen, and Alex smiled at Lady Penelope as she started to make lunch for everyone.

Helena nodded and replied, "Ahh all right.  I'm just so used to working with a budget.  Anyway, umm, let's see what looks good.  I think the roasted chicken with cole slaw on the side looks good.  Is there anything here that catches your eye?"

Lady Penelope smiled back at Alex and her daughter and said,

"Hey, sweetie. I thought I'll make everyone something to eat. How are you doing?"

Nathan replied, "That sounds good. I'll take the same thing. We don't have cole slaw in the gods' world so hmm, I'd like to try it."

Alex smiled a bit and replied, "I'm ok."

He looked to the shapeshifter, wondering if they should tell her about Lycoris and what happened.

Helena smiled and replied, "Great.  We just need to wait for a waiter to come."

A waiter came shortly after.  He placed two glasses of water and a basket of freshly baked rolls on the table.  He then asked if the couple was ready to place their order.  Helena nodded and gave the waiter their orders.  He then asked,

"Would you two like anything to drink?  Some sparkling cider perhaps?"

The shapeshifter saw Alex looking at her and nodding, she looked at Lady Penelope and said,

"Lycoris was still in denial though, if not worse. She was trying to transfer her life force to Nerine's body."

Lady Penelope looked surprised and replied, "What? But that won't work. Did you stop her?"

Nathan nodded and replied, "I'd like that. What about you, love? Would you like the same?"

He looked at Helena for an answer.

Alex nodded and replied, "We did or rather, your daughter stopped her.  I-I didn't think Lycoris would go that far.  I told her that my darling was gone but that she's happy where she is.  I don't understand why Lycoris isn't getting any peace from that."

Helena smiled and replied, "Sure, I'd like that.  We are here to celebrate, after all."

The waiter smiled and jotting down the orders, he said, "Excellent.  The chefs will get started on your orders and I'll be right back with your sparkling ciders."

The waiter bowed and then left the couple.

Lady Penelope sighed and gently replied, 

"Well, we have to understand that Lycoris' case might be a little different. She was in Nerine's body for most of her life so she must be attached to her in an unusual way, not to mention that Lycoris is already quite fragile on her own. And she might not truly understand what death is; she never experienced what losing a loved one is like."

After the waiter had left, Nathan reached out to hold Helena's hands in his own and gazing happily at her, he said, 

"I am the happiest man in the world right now, you know."

Alex nodded and replied, "I see."

He looked sad and quietly asked, "Is this my fault?  Lycoris blamed me for wanting to separate her from Nerine.  Am I to blame?"

Helena happily held onto Nathan's hands and replied, "And I am the happiest woman ever.  I love you forever, Nathan."

The waiter returned with two glasses of sparkling cider, placing them on the table.  He bowed and then left.

The shapeshifter looked at Alex and furrowing her eyebrows, she replied, "If you had not separated them both, and things had taken the same course of action, wouldn't both of them be dead by now? You saved her life."

Lady Penelope nodded in agreement and looking gently at Alex, she said, "That's right, sweetie. You'd have lost them both now. I am sure Lycoris didn't mean that."

Nathan raised his glass of cider in a toast against Helena's and happily said,

"To the best and most beautiful woman in any world, and to the best day of our lives being today."

Alex nodded and replied, "I-I hope so.  I didn't separate them because I foresaw this happening.  I really believed that Lycoris deserved to have a body of her own and it would relieve my darling as well."

Helena happily replied,

"To the happiest day of our lives and to the most wonderful, loving man in any world."

Their glasses clinked and Helena happily took a sip of her cider.

Lady Penelope smiled a bit at Alex and nodding, she said, "She'll calm down and see things more clearly, darling. You two need each other more than any time now. You should rely on each other for strength."

Nathan sipped a little of his cider as well while gazing happily at Helena. As they waited for their meal to be brought, Nathan remembered something and getting an idea, he said, 

"Ahh there is something I'd like to see after lunch, before we get Night. You said you have your own shop here in town, right?"
